World Autism Awareness Day, observed annually on April 2nd, is a United Nations-sanctioned day dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and promoting acceptance, inclusion, and understanding of individuals with autism. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2007, the day seeks to highlight the challenges faced by people with autism and their families while celebrating their unique talents and contributions to society.
Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental condition that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. With a global prevalence, the need for awareness, early diagnosis, and support systems is paramount. On this day, individuals, organizations, and governments worldwide engage in activities such as educational campaigns, lighting iconic landmarks in blue, and hosting community events to foster understanding and advocate for the rights and well-being of individuals with autism.
