Up with Hope, Down with dope
Reference Number: 2023-1-HU01-KA152-YOU-000120035

According to a report prepared by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), based on data from 30 European countries, including Turkey, in 2019 alone, 17.5 million of the 24.7 million cannabis users, 2.6 million of the 3.9 million cocaine users, 2.1 million of the 2.6 million MDMA users, and 1.2 million of the 1.7 million amphetamine users were between the ages of 15-34. These statistics clearly highlight that children and young people, who constitute the majority of drug users, are at high risk of initiating substance abuse.

Therefore, it is crucial to prevent substance addiction before it starts or intervene at the initial stage considering the severe and irreversible consequences of substance addiction at the individual, family, and societal levels. In this context, establishing preventive programs for children and youth, who are the high-risk group, holds special significance in addressing the issue of substance abuse. The main aim of our project is to increase awareness among young people for the prevention of substance addiction and contribute to the preparation and enhancement of existing addiction prevention programs.

Our project involves six partner countries: Hungary, Slovenia, Czechia, Romania, Latvia, and Turkey. A total of 10 participants, consisting of 5 women and 5 men, from these countries are involved in the project.

The project was held in Budapest/Hungary on 24-30 December 2023.
